Always use system restore, or How to Reformat A Hard Drive

No, I'm not gonna tell you how myself, but I'll point you in the right direction!

So there I was, starting up my little techie business, and don't you know I managed to send my poor little laptop into the blue screen of death. I was trying to upgrade some software and don't you know it tweaked my registries something fierce. What I failed to do was use System Restore! Always, always, always back up your data and set a restore point before upgrading software. I speak from experience...

In XP, go into Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools and choose "set a restore point." Then give it a good name, like "Aug 8 before X upgrade". If you're doing lots of tweaking and fixing, set lots of restore points. It won't hurt, and it can save you big time later. Otherwise, you may have to learn how to Reformat your hard drive! Lifehacker.com has lots of great information, and their instructions for reformatting, while lengthy, were thorough and easy to follow.

Good luck!
